Self-employed as a coach! My interview with the Business Sisters

When I ask friends, family and acquaintances how they imagine my self-employment, the words “freedom, self-determination and inspiration” often come to me. These indicators are completely true, but it is only partially true that these determine my entire daily life. In countless moments, discipline, decisions, responsibility and uncertainty also come into play.

I usually interview women role models on my successful business blog FemalExperts, about their strategies and tips in a personal and professional context.

This time I invited the wonderful Business Sisters to Cologne and was interviewed by them. I am pleased to share these two interviews with you today.

Get out of the comfort zone

Videos in general represent completely new territory for me, especially when the strictest critic resides within you. I was all the more delighted by the warm and open manner of these two wonderful women and hope to be able to give you a little insight into the mindset of an entrepreneur.

It is important to me to inspire women to consider self-employment (whether freelance or as part of their own business).

So I tried to share some thoughts that I would have liked to know m advance.

I would like to encourage all readers to take the plunge into self-employment and at the same time admonish them not to do so mindlessly.

Here are some of my tips for self-employment in a nutshell:

• Show courage and take the plunge, but in any case make a business plan, because this is considered as a control authority for your success in business
• It’s perfectly fine to start part-time, but always keep in mind that part-time self-employment can also mean part-time success
• Find your personal “why”. It will strengthen you in times when business may not be going so well
• Saving is fine, but investing is more important. Don’t waste your valuable time on just reducing your expenses, think about how you can increase your revenue on a regular basis.
• Always invest in yourself first.
• Make “networking” your queen discipline. Only through good contacts, recommendations and advocates can you establish yourself permanently on the market.
• Think and plan for the long term. Your question should not be how you will get through the next month, but where you would like to be with your company in five or ten years and what can be done accordingly today.
• Make short to-do lists (max. 5-7 items) and invest the rest of the time (if still available during the day) in new ideas.
• Do not limit yourself in your way of thinking and always direct your gaze “upwards”, i.e. towards people or ideas that are so great that they represent guiding principles/guiding ideas for oneself.
• You increase your knowledge in the areas in which you invest time. If these are relevant to the business, you will achieve expert status, which will save you a lot of money, as you will not have to constantly “buy” this knowledge from outside service providers.
• Know the value of your work. No one cares about your degrees, awards, or expensive car. Show your (potential) leaders the value of what you have to offer and who you are. By helping others, they will also be willing to help you.
• Seek out mentors/mentors. If no one in your family has started a business or otherwise become self-employed, these individuals may be advocates, but not mentors. Look for people who are where you want to be.

My wish would be that women can found full of courage and confidence and choose the path of their own self-employment. This should also be allowed to be realized without prejudice, without hurdles due to gender bias, and without fear of no longer conforming to society’s image.
